Vaccination is the most effecive method for the protection of healty herds from sheep and goat Pox disease.

“Sheep and goat pox is a highly contagious viral disease which is characterized by skin lesions. The virus belongs to capripox group and it is very stable in environmental conditions. The virus can survive for many years in dried scabs at ambient temperatures.”

Virus remains viable in wool for 2 months and in premises for as long as 6 months. In endemic regions and mortality is between 5-10 %. The mortality rate may be as high as 100 % in susceptile breeds and especially in young animals.

The spread of the disease may be prevented by isolation of infected herds and sick
